Rats
Today, in the UK the Brown Rat (Rattus Norvegicus) is thriving
although it is still possible to find pockets of the Black Rat
(Rattus Rattus) still surviving, particularly in our port towns and
cities.
Rats are easily distinguished from mice with the adult growing
longer than 12cm, and in young rats the head will be
disproportionate compared to the rest of the body.
The Brown Rat will have up to 8 young in a litter, and will have up
to 6 litters per year. It also only takes around 12 weeks from
birth to sexual maturity.
With populations growing at alarming rates in recent years it is
not uncommon for rats to infest our workplaces and homes,
particularly in our towns and cities.
